Our love for Cavies

Better known as Guinea Pigs all began in February of 1997.  My sister Karri brought home two males Kalua Pig & Prince Kuhio from one of her friends at the Library.  Mark & I baby sat them one weekend and we fell instantly in love.  I called Karri’s friend to see if she had any others left.  She had just taken the two remaining siblings to the pet store, so Mark & I hopped into Heidi with the dogs and drove to the pet store. We walked in and there was our precious Hapa Pig just sitting in his cage looking at the door like he was waiting for us.  That’s how it all began thanks to three incredible little boy Guinea Pigs. A whole new world had opened up for us.

It's too bad more people haven't realize what wonderful pets these adorable little Cavies are.  They do require a great deal of care and attention not to mention love and are not always suitable for children, especially small children.   If you're considering getting one please contact your local S.P.C.A, Animal Shelter or a Cavy rescue first.  Do a lot of research on their care and needs to make sure you willing to give them the proper care that's needed.

Hapa Pig

Hapa means half & half in Hawai'ian, and because he was black & white we thought it fit him perfectly.  Hapa Pig had more personality then most people we know and boy what a temper!    We lost sweet Hapa Pig on March 10th 2000, he passed away in my arms.  We still miss him so much.   We hope to someday open our own cavy rescue.  It will be called "The Hapa Home Cavy Rescue". He will always have a special place in our hearts.

HAPA-TITA

This is our little Hapa-Tita.  She is Hapa's, Kalua's & Prince Kuhio's sista from another litter.  Tita is pidgin Hawai'ian for sister.   When we first rescued her from the kindergarten class she was skinny, had lost most of her hair and was not very lovey.  Within a few months, she had gained lots of weight, grown almost all of her hair back and was the sweetest little thing you ever met, well almost, she still had a little Hapa in her.   It was amazing how much she acted like Hapa & talked all the time just like he did.  Hapa-Tita joined her family on Oct. 2nd 2001. We are so grateful for the short time we had her in our lives.

Molly

Molly was a rescued piggie we got from a friend. She was about 5 1/2 years old when she passed away.  Her hair use to be completely white but with age her it turned dark. She was a sweet, loving little girl who brought much love to us, Hapa Pig and Kamaka.

Little Red

A special poem written by my sister, Karri.

All Pigs go to Heaven,

God would have it no other way:

For their hearts are filled with only goodness.

But only a few know a heaven here on earth

Like your sweet ones surely knew with you.
